June 1, 2023 Newsletter

This year is certainly turning into a ‘fly-by.’    It’s hard to believe that Passover was almost two months ago, Shavuot was last week, and that now, Biblically, we’re in that Summer period, anticipating the sounding of the Shofar to welcome Rosh haShanna and the Fall Feasts of the Lord.

HAPPENING IN ISRAEL

CULMINATION OF 21 DAYS OF FASTING AND PRAYER

Sunday marked the culmination of the Isaiah 62 Fast – three weeks of fasting and prayer for Israel that we informed you about last month.  The end of the fast was celebrated by a series of gatherings – Saturday night for prayer at our King of Kings Pavilion auditorium many Israeli leaders offered up prayers on behalf of Israel and Jerusalem.   Sunday morning, a contingent of about 800 believers gathered on the Southern Steps of the Temple Mount to pray together.  Incredibly, it rained that morning – the rainy season in Israel is October thru March – rain in May is extremely unusual and was seen by several prophetic friends as a sign from heaven.  The event was connected by live-stream around the world – on GOD TV and TBN.  Of course, it being Israel, there were religious protesters who sought to interrupt the event, and they created a disturbance and garnered much publicity in Israel – most news reporting it in a negative light, as Israel is a democracy and there is freedom of speech.  The great majority of Orthodox Jews would never embrace violence, but there is a small, zealous faction.

It is estimated that over 100,000,000 people around the world participated in the Fast.  May there be good fruit in the Land, and may we see Paul’s words in Romans fulfilled – “all Israel will be saved.” (Romans 11:26)

JUDICIAL REFORM PROTESTS CONTINUE THROUGHOUT ISRAEL

Protests against the Israeli government’s proposed judicial reform plans are continuing, even with increased Palestinian terror rockets raining down on Israel.    However, the number of protestors was far fewer than usual due to the threats of rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip.

The main organizers of the events canceled them due to security concerns, but many protestors gathered anyway.  A few hundred protestors gathered in Tel Aviv, rather than the usual tens and even hundreds of thousands that have previously demonstrated for the last five months.

Larger anti-judicial overhaul protests gathered in the north since the threat related mainly to the south and center of the country.  Some 5,000 Israelis gathered in the northern coastal city of Haifa.  In addition, small crowds gathered in other towns across Israel.

SEND THE IRON DOME SYSTEM TO UKRAINE?

I24 NEWS reported that U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Commanding General Daniel Karbler told the Senate that one of the two U.S. Iron Dome batteries is ready to be deployed to Ukraine.

The statement was made last week during a session of the Senate Armed Services Subcommittee on Strategic Forces. Karbler responded to Sen. Angus King’s question about the reason for Ukraine not receiving the Iron Dome anti-missile system.  “We sent something like $3 billion to Israel to develop it… Wouldn’t this be a very important resource for the Ukrainians since their principal problem right now is missile defense?” the senator asked.

Karbler responded by saying that the U.S. currently has two Iron Dome batteries.

“One completed new equipment training, new equipment fielding. It is prepared for deployment. The other one is wrapping up its new equipment training right now. So the army does have one (Iron Dome battery) available for deployment if we get a request” from Ukraine, the general said.

The Israeli government has been reluctant to provide Ukraine with weapons, including the Iron Dome system. Since Israel is the main producer of the system, the U.S. would need Jerusalem’s permission to send it to a third country,  even though Washington has contributed nearly $2.6 billion since the project was launched in 2011.
