Pray for the peace of Jerusalem:
May those who love you be secure.
TERRORIST ATTACKS IN JERUSALEM
International Holocaust Remembrance Day was not a day of peace in Jerusalem.
As the world commemorated International Holocaust Remembrance Day, Palestinian terrorists launched two attacks on innocent Jewish civilians in Jerusalem. At least seven people were shot and killed and at least three others wounded in a terror shooting attack near a synagogue in Jerusalem’s Neve Yacoov neighborhood police reported. This was the deadliest terror attack since 2011.
Palestinian media reported that celebrations were held in the Gaza Strip and in several Palestinian cities in the West Bank following the deadly attack.
As we witness the rise in anti-semitism around the world, we must stand against the teaching of hate, and believe that there is victory in this ancient spiritual warfare. Please join us in prayer for the families of the victims, and for the leader in Israel who must respond to this terror.
THANK YOU, DEAR FRIENDS
We want to extend a sincere ‘THANK YOU” to all of you who prayed for Michael as he received 20 radiation treatments during January. The daily regimen of preparation, travel, treatment, and recovery very much consumed the month. One of the cumulative effects of the radiation treatment is ‘extreme tiredness,’ and Michael is now in a mode of being depleted and without energy. We expect his energy level to increase over the next few weeks and are optimistic that the treatments will provide two years without the need for other treatments. Thank you for praying with us and for your help with the added costs of treatment and travel.
KETURAH’S BAT MITZVAH
On Saturday, the 21st of January, our ”middle’ granddaughter Keturah celebrated her Bat Mitzvah at the Congregation we helped plant in Jerusalem, Nachalat Yeshuateinu. Part of this ‘rite of passage’ is conducting the Torah Service, and here Keturah is reading in Hebrew the weekly parsha (portion) from the Torah scroll as she leads the community. In addition to leading the ritual portion of the service, Keturah provided a ‘drash,’ (commentary or short teaching) on the portion, and with no prejudice at all, we can tell you she did an excellent job!!
As the Torah Service concludes, the Scroll is lifted, and the community is shown the passage just read. A proclamation is made by the leader and community validating the Torah as authentic, the Word of God, written down by Moses.
Here our spiritual son Pastor Derek assists Keturah by lifting the Scroll for the community to validate. It is a great honor to serve in this capacity. Derek has been raised within the community and is now serving as an Elder.
